Dear Family,
This is one of the hardest — yet happiest — updates I’ve ever written. So much has happened over the last few weeks, and I’ve needed time to just be in the moment, soak it all in, and wait for the right time to share.
First, a quick health update: Julia and I both picked up a little bug after our last clinic visit. Julia’s symptoms were mild — a bit of sneezing and a light cough — and she bounced back quickly. I, on the other hand, got hit harder (but let’s not let that steal today’s joy!).
Now, let’s start with the celebration:
🎉 Julia Turned 6!
On September 9th, our sweet Juju turned six years old. We surprised her with an overnight trip to the Great Wolf Lodge — her absolute dream come true. Julia loves hotels and pools, so it was a magical treat. She even made her very first Build-A-Bear, and together we created memories we’ll cherish forever.
🩺 Important Medical Updates
1. Leg Ultrasound: Julia’s leg cyst has shrunk but gone a bit deeper. It’s now calcified, and the doctors recommend leaving it alone to dissolve naturally rather than risking a large scar from surgery.
2. Port Removal Pre-Op: Julia is scheduled to have her chest port removed on Friday, October 3rd. This procedure is much simpler than when the port was first placed and should take about 15 minutes. Please continue to pray for peace and protection as our little warrior undergoes this next step.
💛 A Surreal Milestone: Her Last Treatment
On Thursday, September 18th, Julia had her very last port access and received her final prophylactic medication and labs. That same day, she took her final oral chemo dose. We celebrated at the beach — a moment full of gratitude, tears of joy, and deep awe at God’s faithfulness.
We’ve walked through high waters and fierce fires, yet the Lord has held our hands every step of the way. We are overwhelmed with thankfulness that we get to keep our precious Julia, and we know her story will be an incredible testimony of God’s goodness.
💌 God’s Kisses Through People
During this journey, we’ve experienced countless blessings — little “kisses from God” reminding us we’re not alone:
· One of Julia’s faithful prayer warriors came to visit us in person — someone who knew Juju from Wednesday night Bible study before her diagnosis. She loves Jesus, she loves Julia, and her presence was such a gift. Thank you, Miss Sherri, and thank you to every one of you who has prayed for us — even without knowing us personally.
Juju also received the sweetest mail from North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii and Texas — thoughtful cards and messages from friends and family near and far. Each one reminded us that Julia is deeply loved and celebrated. Thank you for making this month extra special for our girl — your kindness touched our hearts
· Our family in Kauai, HI, through their congregation Anahola Baptist Church, have been faithfully praying since the beginning. They’ve checked every update, lifted Julia before the Lord, and even sent a precious gift. We are humbled and so deeply grateful.
· Last weekend, we celebrated Julia’s 6th birthday and the end of her cancer treatment by ringing the bell surrounded by our amazing community. The turnout was overwhelming. To see so many faces who’ve stood with us — no words can describe it. The highlight of the day was juju giving an impromptu message, I should had dropped the mic and stopped right there, her message was enough. The final 30 seconds of the attached YouTube video are a heartfelt tribute to our beloved Julia, capturing her spirit so beautifully. We hope it brings you as much warmth and joy as she brought to all of us.
🙏 God’s Faithfulness
God has been so gracious, merciful, loving, and kind — our Deliverer, Refuge, and Strong Tower. Every good thing we’ve experienced has come from His hand. He is making us whole in every possible way.
🌱 What’s Next for Julia
· Port Removal Surgery: Friday, October 3rd, early morning. She should come home the same day if all goes smoothly.
· Ongoing Care: Monthly check-ins with her oncologist for the next year (alternating between Zoom and in-person visits).
· Our Prayer: That Julia continues to heal, grow, and thrive physically and spiritually — detoxing from the harsh treatments, and living a full, vibrant life that brings honor to Jesus. We pray with faith and expectation that cancer will never return.
💖 Thank You
